How many of you using the social networks such as Facebook have woke up, logged on and found that your way of life has now been changed with a new look and feel to it? Pretty much most have! While not a big fan of these networks, even I have one, Cold Sweat-Chicago L.L.C. does also. It is todays world as we know it! For many it is the only way we actually keep in touch with the world around us, our families and our friends..both current and old. Many of us keep our entire life there in photo galleries and the one thing not well liked is the way the network switches our way of viewing them. I have seen complaints by many on their home page that they don't like the change made yesterday or the day before only to fall on the deaf ears of the developers. What most do not seem to understand is they are getting this gallery and a place to vent or communicate for free! All websites, whether a social network or an individual website push forward for new content and a better look or feel. Software just as hardware is continually advancing as the capabilities of the individuals do. One reason is for security. The developers continually need to upgrade the little holes that they find in any given product that would allow outsiders into areas they have no business in. This is not to say we all share a part in those advancing areas. Some are content to leave things as they are and will never be fully comfortable using even a portion of what is available to them.
Many use Firefox as their preferred browser today. For many because its probably faster, for some because the don't like IE, for others because of the many add-ons you can use directed at particular sites or in some cases developmental. I use it for all of the above reasons here at Cold Sweat-Chicago. While I do really love Opera, for a normal use browser, it just won't do what I need in most cases. Firefox allows for using add-ons such as Grease Monkey, an add-on that allows use of user scripts that allow the browser to do certain automated functions. It can change the way a website like Facebook looks or even automatically accept pokes and send them back. What one finds out when using these add-ons though is Firefox starts using up allot of resources. Memory use gets to be a premium that some can't afford. Firefox by design just like Windows uses memory according to whats available. So, if a computer has allot of memory, Firefox will use more. Firefox also leaks and does not release the memory used. In that respect many of us have to restart it to clear that memory. In its use here, Firefox may have 10 to 15 tabs open at any time and at some point double that if I am working on a website with cPanels open while researching cause and effect all the while using Facebook with its constant refreshing and caching of pictures. If you fall into this category of user such as I am you may want to consider using another add-on to Firefox....Memory Fox! On the computer Read all of this Article

As a member of a Non for Profit Military Organization, I have seen times an outside event such as a motorcycle run or chili cook-off gets put on and the public is invited to join in. This is all done to raise money for whatever cause is going on at the time whether it be Cancer Research, Veteran Homes or what have you. Now, these events can be quite popular, food and beverage is made available as well as live music and cash is awarded to the winners and in some cases trophies. These events may also include the ability to sell tip boards, 50/50 raffles and drawings. The members of these clubs hosting the events while being volunteers can also be considered workers during these events as it is their club hosting it and some states have rules concerning the winning or playing. At some point many workers/volunteers decide they want to pay to enter and NOT work the events leaving a handful of members to do all the work involved regardless of how much or little. All have taken part in a vote as to even have or not have that event. Besides constantly updating the components and providing the maintenance such as changes to certain content we provide another service…we monitor for sign-ups that spam. As of just this morning the Russian Federation seems to have gone rampant with the desire to spam. In just a few minutes we have caught 6 new signups. Come on comrades…you guys surely can do better than this. You need to do something different. Those 5 minutes I spent looking at your names and e-mail addresses were short compared to you trying to get by a sign up form. Oh well, better luck next time! It is kind of odd that with all the spammer addresses available, Googles gmail seems to be the choice. Too bad Google doesn’t put as much into checking you out as they do good members of sites.
Through the years coldsweat-chicago.com has went through a number of changes in the website. Regardless of if the recording studio was going or just the web hosting end of it or just having the blog with neither. In that time the site would loose page rank from Google when I changed out. It would go from a 4 to a 2 , down to a 1 ...drove me nuts. For the last 3 years it had an index.php extension and a 1 rank. This week I changed things around again by re-instituting our web hosting service and now have an index.html. Page rank went to where it didn't read 0 but read nothing. Then I remembered about rewrite rules....I put the code in .htaccess and now have a 2 rank anyway. Not the 4 that I had but certainly better than a 0. Now just need to wait maybe a year after doing the SEO to see if the ranking goes up. Too bad Google only does this a few times a year. Here is the way to put the code in .htaccess for those needing it. This will take your web address and redirect the index.html or index.php to just the straight domain when it comes up in the browser. You then change the example .com out to your Domain. RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /index\.html\ HTTP/ RewriteRule ^index\.html$ http://www.example.com/ [R=301,L] Read all of this Article

Many hosting companies claim to offer "unlimited" plans (both disk space and bandwidth), but be aware that there are physical limitations to both disk space and bandwidth. Before you buy an "unlimited" plan, know what you're getting into. It is impossible for any provider to actually provide an unlimited amount of bandwidth or disk space. It's just not possible, just look at cell phone bills! When consumers decide they want to place a website on the internet, they are often unaware of the fact that there are limitations. Unlimited is attractive because it requires no further thought. If it's unlimited then I never need to worry about running out right? Although this is understandable, there are risks with purchasing unlimited plans. Once you start using space or bandwidth up or start consuming an inordinate amount of resources available they will shut you down! Reason is....it affects other websites and the hosting companies profits. Most websites only consume a very small amount of bandwidth and disk space. Web hosting companies that provide unlimited anything as a plan feature are banking on the fact that you won't use very much. This is called DS Overselling and many outfits do this. Unlimited is a marketing trick to get your business. The web hosting market is very competitive. Check in the hosting company's Terms of Service: there will probably be a note about what "unlimited" really means or warning you of consequences of using up a certain % of resources. Most plans Read all of this Article

Through the years since my son was old enough to need a computer I have always found that I liked certain browsers over another for one reason or another. I have always set up websites while building them so that each looked good in all the browsers. That is something that you sometimes need to split the difference on. In any event, regardless of the website, I got them very close to looking the same on each browser. The last week here I have been working on this site as there were a few issues I didn't care for. One reason is the store within it ( even though I do not have a big use for it any longer ) and the other because I noticed the site taking longer to load up. OK, so now I have the store working somewhat right as the shipping area leaves something to be desired. Problem here is that it is a plugin for WordPress that is in Beta stage. It also was first developed as a stand alone store, which I used extensively for some time when the studio was working. One of the developers on this project has decided to be a jerk and writing to him of what seems to be a problem with his plugin (remember it is Beta) has him whining about free support and such. This has to be a kid...OK maybe he is 30 or so but does that mean he can whine about getting paid for something he hasn't got right yet? This jerk wants you to start out with a brand new version of WordPress to install his stuff on. What good is that? Plugins should be designed so that you can install on an older version that Read all of this Article

Welcome to the new website of Cold Sweat-Chicago L.L.C.! With the Studio (The Sweat Shop) now closed, we are re-opening our Web Hosting Services. This site is many things...Its a Blog, a Store, a Forum and a Photo Gallery as well as a Web Hosting Site so there is much that can be accomplished here! The plans offered will start at $2.95 per month for a Starter Plan and go up to $15.95 per month for Organizations that require more space and bandwidth. Contact Us if you are in need of different plans to suit your needs. As well as the hosting services, periodically we will have some used gear for musicians on hand in our Product Catalog for sale. You may find that gem you are looking for! In addition to all of this we are also opening an Affiliate Membership Program to those who wish to make a percentage of the business they bring in to the web hosting services. If you are interested in becoming an affiliate you will find a link on the Hosting Page or in our side bar to the Client Area. Sign up and contact Us! At this time we have bought space from one of the largest Hosting Services in the world with State of The Art gear in a major Data Center in Texas. In time we again will have our own Dedicated Servers to do all of our hosting from and will even offer Dedicated Servers and Reseller Accounts in the line up. While we are not the cheapest service around, we are committed to giving you what you pay for...Great Service in a timely fashion and help when you need it! Read all of this Article
